Ingredient Standards
Ingredients We Avoid
Every Flake Escape formula is screened against the most common irritants identified by the North American Contact Dermatitis Group (NACDG) and ACDS CAMP patch-test data (2019 – 2022). We don’t use known sensitizers that trigger stinging, burning, or redness on sensitive skin.
Fragrance & Essential Oils
Why we skip them: Fragrance mixes I & II, linalool, limonene, and geraniol oxidize into compounds that easily irritate reactive skin.
Found in: “clean-scented” skincare, natural perfumes, essential-oil blends.
Harsh Preservatives
Why we skip them: Isothiazolinones (MI/MCI) and formaldehyde-releasing agents like DMDM Hydantoin and Quaternium-15 can cause allergic contact dermatitis.
Found in: lotions, wipes, shampoos labeled “antibacterial.”
Nickel & Other Metals
Why we skip them: Trace metals like nickel and cobalt are among the top five NACDG allergens and can flare eczema and itch.
Found in: color pigments, packaging components, and mineral additives.
Harsh Surfactants & Emulsifiers
Why we skip them: Ingredients like Cocamidopropyl Betaine and Lanolin Alcohols can disrupt the skin barrier and increase irritation risk.
Found in: cleansers, shampoos, and “gentle” foaming products.
Reactive Botanicals
Why we skip them: Tea tree, lavender, and Balsam of Peru contain volatile compounds that can sensitize delicate skin over time.
Found in: natural “calming” oils and aromatherapy blends.
Barrier-Disrupting Additives
Why we skip them: High levels of propylene glycol, alcohol denat., or abrasive exfoliants can strip the skin’s protective barrier and trigger burning.
Found in: toners, gels, scrubs, and quick-drying formulas.
